MORE EXTRAORDINARY '
BILLIARDS.
A recent London paper says:-The
billiard match of 15,000 up between
the Champion (J. Roberts) and \V*.
Mitchell at the Palais Royal was pro-
ductive of some very remarkable play.
Mitchell was hardly himself at times,
but he woke up at intervals. Roberts
went away at a great pace, playing with
j all the wonderful ease and facility for
which he is so justly fained. He never,
i however, succeeded in fairly shakin î
the indomitable Sheffielder. On Thur*
day by determined play Mitchell got
within 500 points of his opponent, who
went away again at marvellous speed,
scoring breaks of 544 and 019 in the
unprecedented times of fifteen and
twenty-one minutes respectively. These
are. far and away the fastest times on
j record. This placed tho Champion well
ahead, but on the following doy tho
redoubtable " Killy " came up hand over
hand with breaks of 385, 287, and 969.
The last-named effort, which included
321 spots, and which occupied forty
three minutes in compilation, is the best
on record for a money match. On
Saturday, however, despite the gallant
elforts of the north countryman, who
contributed breaks of 484 and 532, the
Champion, aided by 722 and 738, ran
out a winner by no fewer than 1,741
points. A second game of a peculiar
î nature was played between Roberts and
Peall. Only two balls wore used, and
it was simply a question of who could
i make the most spots in a given time.
! After each break the red wrs spotted,
i and the player plaeed his ball in any
position he liked to make the spot shot.
j Roberts proved no match for Peall at
! this game, tho little man scoring 16,000
I to tho champion's 1,190. The game did
I not attract much attention, and was
' generally voted very slow.
