PIGUET'S first London show
GROSVENOR street, al
ready tremendously important to the dressmaking world,
from the presence in it of Molyneux and Schiaparelli, be
came almost overwhelmingly so when M. Robert Piquet,
bright star of Paris' haute couture, opened his London
house at No. 47.
Joan Arthur Writes From London
PIGUET is a very young man,
whose clothes, if one may judge from a single collection, are designed
for the very young, very beautiful, and/or perfectly groomed. They
are essentially French, too, for Piquet has not yet had time (or per-
haps does not intend) to tone down his more extreme models to please
the conservative British.
I ID3 collection reflects the Parisian
{Marion, which thorn no sign of waning, for purple. In large quantities or in
"touches," mad with black or color. A purple taffeta dress is worn with scar
let gloves; emerald green satin lines a magnificent purple Batin coat, full of
skirt and sleeve, and with an intricately pleated top. "infante- is a surprising
afternoon dress of black broadcloth. It has short sleeves and a simple
bodice; the skirt is long at the back and sides, but its centre front panel is
replaced by an underskirt, which comes to just a little below the knees. The
effect Is that of a long apron worn backwards over a short skirt. At the front
of Uh Ions; skirt, and round the hem, purple broadcloth, in a two-Inch hand,
pinked atthe edgas, is put on.

rare.
