GOODS TRAIN
DERAILED
Newdegate Service
Disrupted
Nine trucks were aerailed find
about 240ft. of line will have
to be repaired as a result of a
railway mishap about two miles
east of Burngup, on the Newde
gate spur line from Wagin,
early yesterday morning.
Although- the service was dis
rupted from Lake Grace to
Newdegate, passengers were
not inconvenienced as all
travellers between those two
stations were brought to Lake
Grace by bus to connect with
the normal train service to
Wagin.
The mishap occurred about
6.30 a.m., at a point 284 miles
from Perth. The locomotive
of a goods train from Newde
gate did not leave the line
but three empty water tankers
and three trucks loaded with
sheep jumped the rails and
overturned. Three more.loaded
sheep trucks left the lines but
remained upright. As the train
ground its way to a standstill
about 240ft. of permanent way
was ripped up or damaged.
The three overturned sheep
trucks were unloaded on the
spot by nearby farmers who
feared that some of the sheep
might be suffocated, and the
other trucks, after they had
been restored to the line, were
taken back to Newdegate and
unloaded. No sheep were
killed.
A breakdown train left Narro
gin shortly after noon yester
day to effect repairs.
