PERSONAL.
The British Prime Minister (Mr
Churchill), who has been suffering
from acute catarrh, had another
good night, according to a bulletin
issued from No 10 Downing-street
yesterday, and there was an im
provement in his condition.
The Rev Herbert Lindley, of Cot
tesloe, was installed President of the
WA Conference of the Methodist
Church of Australasla at the open
ing of the conference in Perth Wes
ley Church last night.
Mr H. V. Please, MLC, was granted
leave of absence by the Legislative
Council yesterday for 12 consecutive
sittings of the House on the grounds
of ill-health.
Mr J. H. Smith, MLA, is under
going treatment in a hospital at
Bridgetown. During his absence his
Parliamentary duties will be at
tended by Mr Willmott, MLA.
Dr Michael Traub, official dele
gate of the Jewish Agency for Pales
tine, was tendered a reception by the
Hebrew Congregation of Perth on
Tuesday. Messages were received
from the Lieutenant-Governor (Sir
James Mitchell), the Premier (Mr
Willcock) and others. The Lord
Mayor of Perth (Dr Meagher) wel
comed the visitor. Dr Traub spoke
on the development of the Jewish
National Home and the Jewish war
effort in Palestine. The president of
the congregation (Mr Meyer Breck
ler) was chairman.
Mr T' W. Nairn, works superinten
dent of Cresco Fertilisers, Ltd, is
in Perth on a periodical visit of in
spection of the company's factory at
Bayswater.
Mr Arthur S. Mann, general man
ager for Australia of the Alliance
Assurance Company, Limited. Is
making a short business visit to
this State.
Messrs E. S. Watt and C. T. Con
nor, president and vice-president
respectively of the Master Printers'
Association, left yesterday for Sydney
to attend a special executive coun
cil meeting of the Federation of
Master Printers.
