BOMB DISPOSAL.
SOME UNITS IN ACTION.
Minister's Warning of Danger
CANBERRA, May 26.-Many
bomb disposal units are now at battle
stations in Australia and some have
already been in action after Jap
anese raids.
In making this statement tonight,
the Minister for the Army (Mr
Forde) said that the units had come
through their first test with credit.
In allotting units priority had been
given to the more vulnerable areas
in Australia's defence. Increasing
numbers of units were being trained
at special instructional schools and
selected officers would be employed
as liaison oflicers between their units
and civil ARP authorities.
Mr Forde said that with the south
ward advance of the Japanese the
Australian public should realise that
bombs were likely to fall on cities,
towns and industrial areas. Because
of this he asked the public to place
fuR trust in the bomb disposal units.
