MISCELLANEOUS.
The Greta being a full ship for the United
Kingdom was towed to the Bell Buoy on
Tuesday, and came to anchor to await con
clusion of shore work.
Intelligence of a recent fire on the home
royaae induced some of the old salts at
the Semaphore to talk over experiences
of spontaneous combustion in wool cargoes.
Not many years back Captain Smith had
loaded a cargo of wool at the Cape, and on
finishing the stowage a bale was put away in
the storeroom, where a slight leakage from
an oildrum inadvertently fell upon it. After
being at sea for a few days there was a positive
smell of burning wool, and the moat careful
inspection of the main and fore holds failed
