EARTHQUAKE AT QUErTA.
Houses Badly Shaken.
LONDON, Sept. 29.--An earth
quake shock of great intensity
rocked Quetta this morning, lasting
for 35 seconds. A second and less
intense shock occured a minute
later, and a third 20 minutes after
wards. Houses were badly shaken
and people ran out into the streets.
A heavy rumbling and gurgling
sound accompanied the first shock.
Cables do not mention whether there
were any casualties.
[Quetta is in Baluchistan, and lies
about 400 miles north of KarachL
On May 31, 1934, a disastrous earth
quake laid waste the Valley of
Baluchtstan and entirely destroyed
Quetta, the total deathroll being over
40,000. The present population of
the city is about 35,000.]
