SMALLPOX IN SYDNEY.
[By Telegraph.]
Sydney, November 28.
In reference to the death of George Woods,
who died of smallpox on Saturday, it has tran-
spired that deceased was treated all along for
erysipelas, not smallpox. and it was not till
after death that the medical man attending him
became aware of the true nature of the malady.
It also appeared that Woods was never quaran-
tined, and his people walked about the town as
usual.
Sydney, November 23, 10.36 p.m.
Ar other case of smallpox has been reported
from Balmain, but neither made known to any
medical man nor reported to the authorities
through fear of quarantine. The reluctance on
the part of some persons to make these cases
known arises in the opinion of many from the
past delay in compensating those who have been
quarantined for lots of time and destruction of
property consequent thereon.
