CURRENT AFFAIRS.
Education for Soldiers.
LONDON, Dec 15.---Even in battle
areas discussions are held under the
auspices of the Army Bureau of Cur
rent Affairs. Army education officers
went so far up the line before the
Battle of Alamein that it was con
sidered unsafe for them to address
the men in the open and they spoke
to them inside tanks. The present
commandant of a travelling Middle
East school of education has tra
velled between 25,000 and 30.000
miles and addressed some 7,000 offi
cers and 15,000 troops.
He says: "We have spoken in huts,
tents, lecture halls, theatres, univer
sities and sometimes we have given
12 talks in a day. We discuss such
subjects as 'Russia Today.' 'The.
Future of Germany.' 'Post-war Re-i
habilitation.' After Alamein we
went to Palestine and Syria and
then to Susa, in Tunisia. We had
already made a complete tour of the
Middle East as far north as Cyprus,
down to Khartum and across to
Bagdad. We have hitch-hiked, tra
velled In trains, and by sea and air."
