"RAY OF SUINSHHINE."
"Unknowqvm Friends" Thanked.
SOMEWHERE'E IN AUSTRALIA.
-"We don't know how to thank
-neople for their kindness,R said Mrs
t'ruscott yesterday after the funeral
of her late son. "At home we re
ceived a pile of telegrams trom
friends and many of them asked us
not to give up hope. There were
letters also and it is fine to know
our son was admired by so many
people. Indeed the funeral today
and the trilbutes paid by many ser
vicemen made both myself and Mr
Truscott feel a lot better-a lot bet
ter In that it was good to see so
much was thought of our loving
son. We would like to thank all
those unknown friends for their
floral tributes."
Mrs Truscott added that in the
last letter she received from her
son Squadron-Leader Truscott had
said he was as fit as a fiddle and
never felt better than when he was
In the wlldsof the bush. He had
added that he hoped he, would be
seeing his mother soon. "He knew
how worried I was," said Mss Trus
cot, "as It was 2} years since he
first went into the RAAP . He ar
rived back in Australia from Eng
land in May last year and at that
time letters were arriving regularly
from his fiancee. Actually his en
gagement occurred some time after
he got back to Australia."
MIrs Truscott went on to say that
her son had never liked publicity
and in one letter from England had
referred to the AIF, RAN and
RAA "all doing a great job." He
had "thought of the many brave
boys at the bottom of the Channel
and thought the only difference was
that he had been a little more
successful." "He was a ray of sun
shine in our home," concluded Mrs
Truscott, "and I don't know what
the home will be without hinm."
Frlenusd' Reunion.
Schoolboy pals in Richmond, Vic
toria, about 45 years ago, Mr Trus
cott, father of the late Squadron
Leader Keith Truscott, and an old
friend met for the first time yes
terday after that long interval. It
is a tragic coincidence that both
these old friends have lost their
only sons. Squadron-Leader Trus
cott was killed as a result of an
aircraft accident recently and the
son of Mr Truscott's friend, also
of the RAAP, has been posted miss
ing for some months, and won the
DFC for taking part in low-level
attacks over Germany. Later he was
engaged in flying Mosquito bombers
and is thought to have been shot
down.
