GENEVA AIR
CLEARED
Australia's Firm Policy
Stand
GENEVA, June 27.-President
Truman's veto of the Wool Tariff
Bill produced relief in the interna
tional trade conference circles. The
decision, it was felt, had cleared
the air and opened the way for a
resumption of negotiations between
Australia and the United States.
The Australian Minister for Post
war Reconstruction (Mr. Dedman)
said the veto at least meant that it
was now possible to resume negotia
tions with the United States on
wool tariffs- "where they left off."
He added: "If the tariff negotiations
are to be worth while we must havrd
a reduction in the present wool
tariff of 21d. a lb. The tariff
negotiations are a test as to whether
the Charter will work."
