COUNTRY NEWS.
BOTANUP JUNCTION, Dec. 26.--Durin the
past week 30 turkeys valued at £40 were
stolen from the local hoteL The proprietor
(Mr. A. D. Swansen) said this pen of prime
birds with the exception of those needed for
his own tables had all been fattened for the
Christmas trade and were on order for sale.
-Mr. LA. L. Hurst, the local butcher. had his
utility truck stolen also. Without petrol it was
abandoned at Piniarra. Police are making
investigations
CORBIGIN, Dec. 29.-The township was
crowded on Christmas eve when more than
145 motor vehicles were parked in the main
streets till a late hour.-Work was resumed
yesterday with wheat deliveries at the bins
as strpping is practically finished. Up to
December 24 Corigrin had received 293.811
bushels, and it is anticipated the total will
slightly exceed that of the 1937 season. At
present there is a difference of only. 78.091
bushels Bilbarin receipts are 124.234 bushels.

approximate railing of 6,000 bushels). and
Stretton 29.288. All these totals are- to De
cember 24.
CUE. Dec. 24.-The Cue-Big Bell sub
branch of the Returned Soldiers' League held
its last meeting for tle year at the Big Bell
Hotel in December 20. A car load of Cue
members travelled to Big Bell to attend. It
was decided to ask the executive whether it
would be possible to put the Dawn Service on
Anzac Day on the air. for the benefit mainly
of sub-branches which were unable to obtain
the services of a bugler.-Mr. J. Rowbottom.
of Big Bell. was the successful tenderer for
the new Bio Box for the A.W.U. Hall. and it
is expected that work will commence shortly.
--Mr. C. R. Stahl, mining registrar of Cue,
accompanlgd by his wife and family, are at
present in Perth awaiting a north-bound boat
for Darwin. where he is due to take up an
appointment with the administrative staff of
the Northerl Territory on January 16. Pend
ing the arrival of a successor, Mr. W. Gan

a young married man residing at ,irup. was
seriously injured when he was thrown from
a motor cycle he was riding on to the bitumen
roadway about one mile from Kirup on
Christmas Eve. Tracks indicated that- the
cycle ran over a mound of blue metal screen

picked up in an unconscious condition and
removed to the Bunbury Hospital, where he

FITHARA, Dec. 28.-The Christmas holidays
passed very Quietly, a large crowd taking ad
vantage of the long holiday and leaving for
the city.-The Parents and Citzeans Asso
ciation gave the children a Christmas tree on
December 19 when 100 children received gifts.
-The annual social cricket match between
the married men of Plthara and East Pithara
was held out east on Boxing Day when a
record number attended.-Mr. Jones. the
schoolmaster, has received notice of transfer
to Koorda and Mr. Thomson of the Bank of
New South Wales has been transferred to Ire
mantle. The C.W.A. tendered Mrs.Thomson
an afternoon on December 26 when a smeal
preoentation was made to her.-Several farm

are nearly finished. Carting will commence
again tomorrow after three days' holiday.
