BRITISH AGRICULTURE.
Critics of Government Policy.
LONDON, Dec. 18.-fl-Dssatsfacton
with the Government's agricultural policy
is growing. A hitherto solid Government
supporter, Lieutenant-Colonel Heneage,
who represents Louth, has resigned his
past as private secretary to Sir Walter
Womersley (the Assistant-Postmaster
General) "because he wants greater
liberty in dealing with agricultural mea
sureS."
Colonel Heneage, in his letter of resig
nation, says he represents a large agri
cultural constituency in which there is
considerable distress, and dissatisfaction
at the measures contemplated to meet it.
When asked whether his resignation was
a signal for a revolt among members of
the Commons representing agricultural
constituencies, he did not comment, but
Sir Walter Womeraley said, "Colonel
Heneage disagrees with the Government's
agricultural policy."
