THE WEATHER.
Local Bureau's Report.
Yesterday morning .the northern
sections of a vast atmospheric de
pression still extended. over most of
the southern half of Western Aus
tralia. but the disturbance had made
moderate progress eastwards during
the previous 24 hours and its rain
productivity had . somewhat de
creased. Rain was, however, re
corded fairly generally in the south
western and -south-eastern divi
siohs, and the rain area ex-i
tended over a large portion of the
Gascoyne. Registrations were mod
erate to fairly heavy in the South
and Central Coastal divisions and
mostly light to moderate elsewhere;
110 points at Pemberton, 106 at
Brunswick Junction, 95 at Waroona
and 90 at Mundaring were the prin
cipal amounts reported. Perth re
ceived 52 points and Guildford 64.
By 3 p.m. yesterday barometric
pressure in the northern sub-tropics
and to a lesser extent in the south
western divisions had increased con
siderably as a new anticyclone from
the west extended eastwards across
the west coast and partially dis
placed the depression affecting the
southern divisions. In the lower
south-west, however, a slightly se
condary disturbance had developed
and its effect was to cause the winds
to veer from the south-west to the
west with a tendency for a renewal
of showers in the lower South-West
and on and near the central coast.
However, it appeared probable that
this secondary disturbance would
have produced most of its rain dur
ing the night and that today's
weather would show a renewal of
the improving trend manifested yes
terday morning.
At 3 p.m. yesterday strong wes
terly winds and rough to very rough
seas still prevailed from Cape Natur
aliste to Eclipse Island. Maximum
temperatures to 3 p.m. were mostly
in the 60's in the southern half of
the State, and the lowest reading
was 50deg. at Eclipse Island. In the
tropics registrations ranged from
73deg. at Winning Pool to 90 at
Wyndham. Perth experienced vari
able cloudiness with a few showers
which amounted to 4 points between
9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Moderate to fresh
south-westerly winds prevailed in the
morning and moderate west-north
west winds in the afternoon. Tem
peratures varied from 48.3deg
(0.Sdeg. below normal) at 7.37 am.
to 62.1deg. (0.7deg. below normal) at
2.50 p.m.
STATE FORECAST.
(Issued at 5 p.m. yesterday for the
ensuing 24 hours.)
At first mostly cloudy in the southern
sub-tropics with further showers.
chiefly in the central and southern
coastal and agricultural divisions,
but becoming finer from the north.
Fine elsewhere. Westerly winds
south from the tropic, fresh to strong
but later moderating on the south
and central and lower south-west
coasts. Chiefly easterly winds in the
tropics.
