MOTOR DRIVER ARRESTED I
ON CHARGE OF ASSAULT I
According to a ¡»tory told to the
Kyneton police on Saturday by a girl
ajied 15 years, three men in a Buick
. motor car called on Friday at a shop
in Eaglehawk and entered into con-
versation with the girl's mother, who
k the proprietress (says a Kyneton
message in the '"Argus"'). Arter a
time one of the men offered to take the
giri for a trip in the car to Melbourne,
where the cirl wished to visit her aunt.
The mother eventually agreed to allow
1 her daughter to go on condition that
J another aunt, who lived in Bendigo,
j accompauied her. After promising to
Llfú'k up this aunt, it is alleged, the
r party left Eaglehawk early on Saturday
morning. They failed to take the
aunt, bowever. A halt was made at
Elphinstone. While his companions
were in the hotel one of the men, ac
I rordimr to the story told to the police,
started the car with only the giri in it
with bim. At Kyneton, it is alleged,
the. driver turned off the main road
in the direction of Piper's Creek- At
a point- about eight miles from Kyne-
ton screams were heard by Mr. M.
Ryan, a resident of tho district, who
was passing along the road in his gig. j

Bendigo police, and an arrest was made
at Bendigo early on Sund.iy.
At HIP Bendigo police «station Henry
A. Westbrook, aged 81 years, a travel-
ler, was charged with'having attempted
lo commit a serious offence asaintt a
.'irl, aged 15 year%, ai Piper's Cronk.
He will be brought before the Bendigo
Court when a remand to Kyneton will
be sought.
