The collision in the íáigiish vnannw
between the Japanese steamer Toko
fttku Maru and the German steamet
Heindal occurred nt ll o'clock on
Tuesday night ott" Dungeness (England).
A thick fog made tfîe ships' lights in
yiaible. The TokofulAt Maru disap-
peared in two minutes. A huge hole
in made in her side. Many of the
orew were thrown into the water, in-
cluding the captain and chief officer,
who were picked up by the Heindal.
The missing members of the crew are
believed to have been asleep in their
books. They were trapped like rats.
Lifeboats have not found any more
survivors.
A sailor on the Heindal said that when
the Japanese steamer loomed up dead
