TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL.
MEETING IÄST NIGHT
The fortnightly meeting of the!
Trades and Labor Council was held in
the Trades Hall last night, Mr. W. li.
! Eriksen presiding.
Credentials were received and
accepted from the Liquor Trades Union
for Messrs. G. Ford and J. M'Kenna.
Mr. J. Watts was welcomed as a dele
I gate from the Baking Trade Employees'
Union.
I A letter was \ received from the
Menindie Progress Association asking
the assistance of the council in urging
the Minister for Railways to run a
motor train for passenger traffic be-
tween Menindie and Broken Hill. The
letter was received and it was decided
to forward the request to the members
for the district asking them to move
in connection with the matter.
A communication was received #from
the Compensation Association in con-
nection with a resolution passed at the
last meeting of tho council concerning
the testing of a recent decision of1 the
Compensation Scheme Joint Committee,
lt was decided to inform the Com-
pensation Association that the Council
could do no other than what was con-
tained in the motion first carried in
view of the fact that it had no specific
case to go on.
Lists of unfinancial members were
received from the Amalgamated En-
gineers' Union, F.E.D. and F.A.,
Trades and Laborers' Union, and the
I Liquor Trades Union, which were
ordered to be circulated.
lîeports were given in connection
with the Broken Hill and District War
memorial fund and the Trades Hall
Trust. A report was also received from
the delegates appointed in connection
with the non-union campaign. They
stated that nearly 500 new members
had joined up since the start of the
campaign. The report was received
and considered as highly satisfactory.
Messrs. W. E. Eriksen, G. Ford, and
H. Tyler were appointed to wait on the
W.I.U. with a view of pointing out
the advantages of affiliation with the
council.
The secretary was instructed to com-
municate with Mr. A. J. Triggs,
manager- of the Broken Hill Water
Supply, protesting against the cutting
off of water between the hours of 8
p.m. and 7 a.m., and requesting him
to augument instead of curtailing the
supply.
The meeting was adjourned for a
fortnight.
