Former Port Player Killed
In Action
The first South Australian footballer to be
killed in action was Lloyd Rudd; the first Vic-
torian player to lose
his life in action in
this war was Jack
Wade. Both were from
the Port Adelaide club
Wade went to Mel
bourne with the 1930
South Australian team
and his sensational
performance in out
classing Syd Coventry
Victoria's star ruck
man, attracted the at
tention of Victorian
talent scouts. He was
one of the earliest of
the many Interstate
players attracted to
the South Melbourne
club. Wade, although
very popular in the
club, as he was with
Port Adelaide, was un
able completely to re
produce his South
Australian form.
However, he reached
great heights In badminton and squash, win
ning the Victorian doubles title in the former
sport, and played off for the Australian cham-
Three of Wade's brothers enlisted In the
last war. and Wade came to Adelaide to Join
up with four brothers in the present war. one
of whom was reported wounded this week.

Past And Present Norwood
Union Players To Meet
The Norwood unlo'n Football Club will hold
a reunion match between past and present
players at Kensington Oval on August 9.
This club was formed in 1902. and nas per
haps the best record of any junior club in
South Australia.
