MUMCIPAL ELECTIONS.
No Special Petrol Allowance.
CANBERRA, Nov 20.-The Gov
ernment has decided that the Com
monwealth's petrol stocks will not
permit a grant of a special allowance
of petrol to candidates for municipal
elections. The Acting Prime Minister
(Mr Forde) explained that between
600 and 700 local authorities in Aus
tralia had from eight to 12 represen
tatives each. The grant of even a
moderate allowance of petrol for
each candidate would involve an un
warranted substantial consumption.
Special allowances were made to,
candidates for Federal and State
elections, he said. A comparison of
municipal elections with Federal and!
State elections was not valid because
Federal and State electorates were
much more extensive. Candidates for
