CHRISTMAS CHEER.
Mental Hospital Appeal.
The annual appeal is now being
launched by the committee of the
board of visitors to the Claremont
Mental Hospital and the mental
after-care committee, for public sub
scriptions to the fund to provide
Christmas cheer for mental patients.
Referring to this the Minister for
Public Health (Mr Panton) ex
pressed on behalf of himself and the
department the hope that there
would be a ready response to this
worthy appeaL Many of the inmates,
numbering over 1,000 and including
about 50 children, are without friends
or relatives and dependent on the
appeal for the provision at Christ
mas time of a few of the extras they
lack in every day life. Especially
does this apply to the children to
whom particular care is paid.

the hon treasurer, Mr J. L. B. Weir.
