Rising Costs
Cause Dearer
Cinema Seats
Increased costs were the
reason for the rise in ad
mission prices, ranging from
Sd tn Sd. with tax. which will
te made in most city and subur
ban theatres this week. Mr.
Clyde Waterman, managing
director of Waterman Bros.,
Ltd., said yesterday.
Mr. Waterman pointed out
that the cost of film hire, de
controlled at the same time as
theatre admission prices last
Thursday, had already risen be
cause of devaluation, and was
certain to increase further.
Both wages and advertising
rates had risen by 100 p.c. since
before the war.
Attendance at theatres
generally had declined since
the war, causing a proprotianate
increase in costs over tafcingK
Mr. Waterman added that
prices in most theatres had not
been increased since 1938.
