ONION SALES.
Merchant's Proposal Rejected.
Referring to a report of a meeting
of the Spearwood branch- of the
Market Gardeners' Association which
appeared in "The West Australian"
yesterday, Mr A. Murray, Mercan
tile broker of the Metropolitan Mar
kets, who was referred to in the re
port as distribution manager for the
Onion Board, said yesterday that
there was no distribution manager
for the board. His position was that
of representative on the board of
merchants' interests. The auction
eers were themselves agents for the
board.
In reply to statements made at
the meeting, Mr Murray said that he
had attended a recent meeting of
the Spearwood branch of the asso
ciation, either in March or April,
when he had suggested to members
that they could export their onions,
but a motion to that effect was
turned down flatyv. Another sugges
tion of his, that i'te merchants takeI
over growers' atocis of onions at
their own risk at a price of £2 or
£3 per ton cheaper than the ruling
price in order to compensate for
waste, was also defeated.
