DEATH OF A MINING
MANAGER.
THE death is announced at his resi-
dence, Albert Park, Victoria, of Mr.
Richard Parker. He was 65 years of
age, and was a well-known and .
highly trustworthy mining manager.
He was manager of the Garibaldi
Company about 15 years ago, and re-
signed in order to take charge of the
Fiery Cross Company at Barmedman,
near Temora. This company did very
well for a time, but on the gold giving
out he retired and took an extended
holiday with his relatives at Ballarat.
His next appointment was as manager
of one of the Broken Hill mines. He
retired, however, from active work
some time ago, and was living on his
means at the time of his death. He
leaves two grown up sons, and has a
brother who is a leading resident of
Daylesford and member of the local
borough council. The deceased (says
the Bendigo Independent) was
of an adventurous, energetic,
and self-reliant disposition, and
believed that one should move about
in order to better his fortune. It was
this trait in his character that caused
him to be one of the applicants to a
committee under the auspices of the
Bendigo School of Mines some 18
years ago, when a delegate was sent
from Bendigo to the Pacific Slope to
report upon the methods of mining in
vogue there and the machinery used.
Mr. G. A. Thureau, F.G S, received
the appointment, but Mr. Parker was
well up in the voting.
