Disapproval of the action
of the Minister for Com-
merce and Agriculture (Mr.
Pollard) in not increasing the
wheat to 6/ a bushel bulk at
sidings had been expressed at
a meeting of the committee ot
the Primary Producers' Protec
tion Association At R&dina, the
chairman of the association
(Mr. R. J. cummins) said yes
terday,.
In discussing the proposed
alteration to the wheat stabili
sation plan it had been pointed
out that the 6/ a bushel bulk
at sidings was at least 6d. a
bushel below costs after charges
had been deducted from the
price of6/3 I.o*. at portt.
The meeting had resolved to
urge the Australian Wheat
Board to request the Minister
Immediately to increase the
price of wheat to stockfeeders
to the same level as that chatted
for wheat for Hour.
Concessional sales had al
ready cost the Wheatgrower £70
million, Mr. Cummins said, and
this would no doubt exceed £100
million by the end of the 1947
-48 season,

wheat to Britain and India at
a loss of £10 million to wheat
growers on present market
'Prices. It was evident that the
Federal Government had no in
tention of giving up the power
of direction and control of the
,'Australian Wheat Board.
i Sir. cummins said that the
wheatgrower had been social
ised, because he must have a
licence to grow, must hand over
.bis wheat to the Government,
take what the Government gave
him and wait until It decided to
make further payments.
