MISCELLANEOUS.
The BERAR, from London and Plymouth, with
immigrants, arrived on Friday morning after a very
good passage, during the greater part of which very
fine weather predominated ; in fact, throughout she
has never encountered a severe gale. She sailed on
September 13, and having touched at Plymouth took
on board her immigrants, and made a final start on
September 20, and on the third day out took depar-
ture from the Lizard, and during a fresh breeze on
the following day she had the figure-head washed
away, and afterwards the wind veered to the south
west, and blew hard for a couple of days. On the
breeze taking off the direction changed to north-
west, and finally north-east, giving the vessel some
very good running, which carried her through
the northern trade region, but the prevailing
wind was lost in 13° N., 27° W. Then
light variable winds and unsettled weather
to 5°N. 23° W., when the south-east trades com-
menced, with light puffs, as the vessel crossed the
Line on October 23 in long. 27° W., when thirty
days out. On October 27 sighted the Brazilian
coast, and the wind hauled so far ahead she was
compelled to make a couple of tacks off Pernam-
buco. On the 29th a moderate east wind set in and
reached 19° of south latitude. [On November 5
sighted the Island of Trinadad, and favourable winds
carried the barque to 34° S. On November 18
crossed the prime meridian in 40° and thence to the
longitude of the Cape of Good Hope had moderate
west and north-west winds. That was reached on
November 23 in 42° S., and the easting was crossed
on 44°. On December 15 was on the longitude of
Cape Leuwin in 41°, and at noon on the 20th sighted
Cape Borda when eighty-eight days from the
Lizard. The vessel headed up for the roadstead on
Friday morning, and shortly after noon was towed
into harbour and took up a stream berth.
The Aldergrove, which is appointed to complete
loading at Port Wallaroo, was towed dora the river
on Friday, and discharged the pilot at the Bell Buoy.
She was then boarded by Captain Osborne, who was
? to act as coasting pilot on the passage round. The
' tug lengthened out the hawser and started on the
long tow immediately.
'. The Glavcus, steamer, passed Cape Jerv's on
Friday afternoon, and would be due atthe.Souu
phore before midnight.
The Astracas is a full shin for the home voyage,
arid on Saturday morning was appointed to tow to
the Bell Buoy. The tug was then engaged to pro
ceed to the Border CniEF, which has received
orders to discharge cargo at this port.
