Fred's the name
^J*HERE must be something about the name Fred. Time
and again it crops up in advertisements and cartoons;
pet animals of any kind are given it. Today I heard a man
talking about a big cactus growing outside his door. "We
always call it Fred," he said. When my husband was born,
my mother-in-law, hoping for a girl after two boys, had
no name planned. When she asked what he should be
called, his father replied ? yes, you've guessed it, "Call
him Fred."

Correct side of road
J^ESPITE all our warnings, our little lass persisted in
riding her bike on the wrong side of the road. Then
I realised we were at fault in having told her, "Always
ride on the right side," when we should have been saying,
"Always ride on the correct side of the road." A switch
in choice of words has achieved the desired result. She
now rides on the left side of the road ? the correct side.

Another tale of a shoe
FOOTNOTE to the tale of the one shoe. At Sydney's
revolving restaurant, an unwary customer, seated near
the windows, slipped off one shoe, only to find, to her
horror, that as her table had imperceptibly moved on,
her shoe had remained on the stationary outer rim of the
flooring.

Never again!
QN her wedding day my girlfriend was in a great flurry
and extremely nervous. With bride, bridesmaids, and
bride's mother all dressing at the same time and needing
help, there was bound to be confusion. When her veil
wouldn't fit properly, and the photographer was waiting
outside, the bride reached the end of her tether. Throwing
up her hands in desperation, she exclaimed, "I'm not
getting married ever again!"

Possengers* plight
J^T different times there are rail strikes, bus strikes, tram
and plane strikes. The only strike there hasn't been is
a passenger strike. We are there ? faithfully waiting ?
every time.

Vic.
One solution
JJAVING the color-photography craze but no screen,
showing slides always meant hanging a white sheet on
the living-room wall. This was bothersome. However, the
problem has been neatly solved ? we now use the flat door
of our white refrigerator.
