faction. A unanimous vote of thanks was

quite satisfied with the reception the electors
bad given him, and he also said that he pre
ferred this mode of vote to tbe usual one of fit
and proper person, as be always regarded such a
mode of voting as an interference with the
legitimate principle of the ballot. He
further stated that be objected to the
daily papers saving, as they had done
on more than one occasion in reference
to his meetings, that be was unable
to find a proposer. The simple fact was that
at no one single meeting out of the many that
be had held in West Torrens, and also in
Onkaparinga, had he ever sought or asked any
one to either propose or second him, simply
because it was opposed to their political policy.
The newspapers had done him— doubtless un
wittingly—an injustice, because if he did not
seek bow could it be said he failed to find.
Any man versed in politics must know that
proposers and seconders could always be pro
cured, however unpalatable the assertion might
sound to free and independent electors.
