It is reported that a movement is on
foot among the Syndicate of the Stock
Exchange to further the construction of
an Australian transcontinental railway.
EVACUATION OF KANDAHAR.
The Government have decided not to
retain possession of Kandahar, though the
date for the withdrawal of the British
troops is, for the present, unfixed.
AFFAIRS IN IRELAND.
The Government have decided not to
re-enact the special measures heretofore
provided for the preservation of peace in
Ireland.
THE CESSION OF BULCIGNO.
The Times states that Riza Pasha ha3
notified that he will only resist the ad
vance of the Montenegrins, pending
the orders of the Porte to yield Dulcigno.
The Times further states that the pressure
brought to bear upon the Porte must
now cease to be local.
