POET AUGUSTA NEW3.
Port Augusta. December 22.
Typhoid still exists here, and Dr. Markham
has reported three cases to the Local Board of
Health. For some time past the rubbish from
the town has been deposited on Governmeat
suburban sections, and great discomfott has
been experienced by residents upon blocks
adjacent to these sections. Complaints were
consequently made to the Local Board, and at
their last meeting a resolution was passed
authorizing the Chairman to communi
cate with the Central Board, asking
wfcat steps should be taken to abate the
nuisance. This the Mayor did, and a reply was
received authorizing the rubbish heaps to be
covered with sand forthwith. The effluvium
from the deposits is said to be almost un
bearable. Action will be taken in the Law
Court against persons depositing any further
rubbish here.
The weather ia excessively oppressive. '
The half-yearly report of the Directors of tbe
local Building Society is exceedingly satis
factory.
