She ls Mrs. Emily Paton (61),
I who resides at the corner of
Bridge-street and Margaret-ter-
race.
Early in the evening she bade
farewell to her husband and
san who left for Wallangarra,
where they are employed at the
meatworks. Mrs. Paton closed
the front door and was engaged
in writing a letter when shs
was attacked.
She regained consciousness
about 9 p.m. with blood flowing
from the wound in her forehead.
She staggered to the home of a
neighbour next door. The am-
bulance was called and she waa
taken to the hospital.
Mrs. Paton was unable to tell
the police what had happened
from the time she was writing
a letter until she regained con-
sciousness, which she thought
must have been 20 minutes or
half an hour after the attack.
The police at an early hour
to-day had been unable to find
a motive for tbs crime. Some
money in the house was un-
touched and no property of any
kind was reported missing.
When Mrs. Paton became con-
scious she found the front door
open.
