CRIMINAL ELEMENTS.
Egyptian regular police have
thrown a big net round known
criminal elements in the three
main Canal zone towns of Port
Said, Suez and Ismailia during
the past fortnight, but intelligence
officers at General Erskine's head-
quarters said to-day they believe
that a number of terrorist lead,
era had drifted back from the
Delta and had begun recruiting
again. The officers said th.-y
were assembling small bands of
fanatics willing to risk death to
stir up anti-British feeling again
in the zone. It is believed mat
one of these gangs was respon-
sible for the dynamiting at El
Kantara two days ago. British
Intelligence is now trying to trace
the suspected secret desert route
from the Delta into the Canal
zone. It is reported to nave been
used for the past four months to
smuggle men and arms into the
zone.
