U.S. TOGES MODEBATION.
WASHINGTON. Jan. J»
'(A.A.P.).-The United States w%*
ursine the new Egyptian'Govern-
ment to show moderation in tts
approach to the Suez dispute
with Britain, xan authoritative
American source said to-day. This
vas the United States policy
towards the Government of Mus-
tafa Nah as Pasha, dismissed by
King Farouk yesterday, and it re-
mained the policy toward the
new Government, it was stated.
The New York "Wall Street
Journal" says that reports that
the United States was to warn
the Egyptian Government to-day
about the tense situation were
now categorically denied here.
The reports said that the United
States Ambassador in Cairo (Mr.
Jefferson Caffery) was to deliver
this warning, but it was stated
here that Mr. Caffery has done
little more than counsel modera-
tion and to protest against the
destruction of American property
in Cairo in the riots over the
week-end.
The "Wall Street Journal" said
that Mr. Caffery would urge the
Egyptian Government to (1). exer-
cise strong control internally;
(2) : istop', . Government officials
from aiding and secretly support-
ing anti-foreign groups: (3) con-
tinue diplomatic relations with
Britain; ;^and._ (4) refrain-^ from
anti-Britisn and anti-foreign state-
ments which only served to stir
up the population.
