INCREASED DUTY
ON RAYON PIECE
GOODS
MANUFACTURERS- CONCERNED
BRISBANE June 15.-The execu-
tive at the clothing Industries divi-
sion of the Chamber of Manufac-
tures was extremely concerned at
the Increased duty on rayon piece
i goods, the sectional secretary of the
Chamber of Manufactures (Mr. S.
i Trott) said to-day.
Due to climatic conditions Queens-
land women were extremely large
users of rayon for summer wearing
I apparel.
He said lt was apparent that twa
years' supply of rayon was not held
in Queensland, because from pre-
liminary inquiries it was found that
the manufacturers' present require-
ments could not be met from stocks
held here.
The. president of the Chamber or
Manufactures (Mr. R. Dobson) said
it was hoped that wiser counsel
would prevail in regard to new
rayon duties and even at this late
stage consideration would be given
to a.bounty, on Australian manufac-
tured rayon- instead of tariff , pro-
tection^_'
