PLATFORM OF LABOlft
PARTY \
PAVES WAY FOR REPS
MB. MADDEN'S CHABGE
WARWICK, Apr. 26.-The
platform of the Labour Party
provides for paving- toe way for
the Cosamanist regime, said the
redera! Trsasarer (Mr. A. W.
Fadden) te-night «The ground
feas been prepared and condi-
tions ar« ideal forN the Com-
munists te take erer in a situ-
ation in which ne eenstttational
?ssans weald remain of prevent
. lng tnsss (rom potting their
progrirssje of anarchy Into ef-
fect." he satt.
"The Socialists propose that the
Chief Justice would also be Gov-
ernor by virtue of hjs office and
that lp exercising his functions he
would act only on the advice af re-
sponsible Queensland Ministers. The
Parliament with Labour in major-
ity, would likewise become a rubber
stan» and measures could be de-i
sighed to so arrange the electorates
that a Labour majority could be
i assured.

I NO SAFEGUARDS*
"There ls no review of BHIs pass-
ed by the Legislative Assembly and -
the Queensland Constitution, unlike
that of the Commonwealth, confers
absolute power of Uw-aaking orr
the Queensland Parliament,'* -he
continued. There are-no safe-
guards in the Queensland Constitu-
tion such as are found/for Instance,
In Section 92 of the Commonwealth
Constitution. It is impossible then,
except in the obvious case where the
Queensland Parliament infringes on
exclusive Commonwealth power, to
challenge an Act of the Queensland
Parliament on the ground that-it
is unconstitutional So, a Socialist
controlled Parliament could do what
it pleased, democratic Government
would disappear and the Socialist
Party thus become virtual dictators.
"Conditions would then be ripe for
the Communists who would find
everything ready-made for them
and a small group would be able to
wield absolute power in the state
after all constitutional impediments
had been so thoughtfully removed
by their Socialist partners carrying
'out the platform of the Queensland
State Labour Party."
