j Y CORRESPONDtNO
1 : THE STATE ELECTION.
: i (To the Editor, "The Cairns
. Post") t . ? -
Sir,-Since about 1884 I have
taken a keen interest in elections,
State, Federal and local:authority.
In 1887 I was "red hot" in the
movement to have. a new State
created in North Queensland. The
63 years have passed, and still' the
North is not thought much of' by
politicians in Southern parts until
an election is pending.'
During the 66 years since I first
busied myself I have declined
many requests to join with the
Labour Paty, but always refused
to sacrifice .nw freedom. Perhaps
1 have more often than otherwise
worked to put the Labour Party
into power, but the feeling has
come upon me that Labour is suf-
fering from a "swelled headi" and
forces its politicians into action*
which most ot them disapprove of
but- have to submit to or be
thrown out The late Chris. Wat-
son, the first Labour Prime Minis-
ter of Australia, warned me. of
this after he had resigned.
The old saying "A new broom
sweeps clean," applies to Govern-
ments as well as housemaids and
business houses. The strength of
that great - Christian movement,
the Salvation Army, has been, in
my opinion, its move-on policy of
its leaders.' In view; of these
thought« I am not going to vote
for Labour at the coming election.
I Tours etc,
FRED CY HODEL.
