Alf. DESTINATION.
DEPEND ON SITUATION.
WILL BE THIPD EXAMINATION.
SYDNEY. November 25.
The Second A.I.F. is being trained
for service at home or overseas, and]
whether troops will be sent overseas
still depended on international de-
velopments, said the Minister for De-j
fence (Mr. G. A. Street). I
Consideration was being given to
X-ray examination of the lungs of ill
recruits to the Second A.I.F., he said,
with the object of detecting cases of
tuberculosis which could not be recog-
nised by any other means.
The importance of the second ex
aminaiton now being carried out by
the Medical Board was considerable.
It prevented men who would be unfit
to stand the strain of active service
receiving training and being sent over-
seas, which would involve a great
waste of money.
Shortly before embarking, should
embarkation take place, a third ex-
amination would be held to determine
if any soldier had failed to stand up
to the physical strain of training or
had contracted any infectious or other
disease. __________
