TODAY'S RACING.
HELENA VALE FIXTURE.
Prospects of Candidates.
(By "Brooldry.")
Racing at the Helena Vale Club's
meeting today will open at 215 p.m.
with the running of the Greenmount
Plate, for which there is a field of five.
The fields for the following events, how
ever, are good and on the running of
the Greenmount Purse, Helena Vale Han
dicap and Bassendean Breeders, a treble
totalisator wil be run. Patrons of the
leger reserve will be able to purchase
tickets on the treble. The usual cheap
admission charges will be in operation.
TaJ appears to be the winner of the
Greenmount Plate. This improved geld
ing has won at his last three starts,
and with only 8.0 today should be cap
able of adding another win to his record.
Of the four horses who are to oppose
him Lady Rays and Black Dust read best.
Lady Rays led all the way to win the
Canning Welter a fortnight ago, while
Black Dust had two starts at that meet
ing for a second and a fifth. Headfern
is doubly engaged. Carrilo is selected
for the Helena Maiden. This mare
showed a glimpse of form when she ran
third in the W.A.T.C. Maiden Plate on
April 30. She started at 20 to 1 on
that occasion. Tint, who finished well
in fifth place in the Maiden Plate in
which Carrilo was third, also has a strong
claim today. Another with a chance is
Sept (second over a middle-distance at
York recently). A large field will run in
the Greenmomunt Purse and of those en
gaged Leprechaun, Lady Tourist and
Kaspar appeal most. Leprechaun has
shown good form of late. He ran third
in a Purse at Goodwood, won a Trial
Stakes at Belmont Park, and then ran
third in the Canning Purse a fortnight
ago. Lady Tourist stalled off all chal
lengers and won the Rocklnghsm Han
dicap last Saturday, after a thrilling
finish, while Kaspar finished second to
her (beaten a neck). Rollovant, Maybe,
Old English and Orimadale should be
the pick of the others.
The Helena Vale Handicap will be de
cided over a middle-distance and form
points to Shady Boy as the probable
winner. He finished fourth in the Can
ning Handicap won by Eastdel, and be
fore that performance had recorded a
third and a fifth in mile races. Eastdel
has won on the Helena Vale course, and
since that victory has scored at Canning
Park, so that she should start a well
fancied candidate today. Dark Bride,
second in the Canning Handicap won by
TaJ, who at Helen Vale today will mike an attempt to win his fourth race in sucession. Help

in sucession.
Eastdel, Beetaloo, Spanish Burn and
Bonnie Foi (third in the Canning Han
dicap), should all run well. Brighton
often does well on the Helena Vale track
and perhaps he will account for the
Bassendean Breeders. Brighton won two
events at the Banbury carnival in March
and in the following month he ran fifth
In the W.A.T.C. Plantagenet Plate. He
has 9.0 today but should be able to
handle his weight. Saladin, who ran
second to Nodite in the Canning Breeders
a fortnight ago, Acis, who is returning
to form as he showed by his fourth in
the welter event last Saturday, and
Bonnie PoI, if started here, should
trouble the top-weight. Others with
claims are Cattle Chosen, a very close
fifth in the Rocklngham Handicap last
Saturday, Wavia and Amocrest (a good
winner at Pinjarra on May 11). Head
fern is in two events, but if reserved for
the Kalamunda Welter she may win. In
this welter race the 'mare (who is show
ing improvement) will meet among others
Amusing (fourth at his last start), and
Wembley (who won the welter at the
previous meeting on this course).
Special trains will leave the central
station for the course at I p.m., 1.12 and
1.25 p.m. The horse train leaves Eouth
Beach at 10.35 a.m., Fremantle at 10.55.
Perth at 11.40, and Belmont at 11.40
