PROSPECT RATEPAYERS
FORM ASSOCIATION
Question Of New Town
Hall
Nearly 100 residents attended a meet- <*>
ing in the Methodist Church Hall,
Pulsford road. Prospect, las night,
when the Prospect Ratepayers' Asso-
ciation was formed. The Mayor (Mr.
L. A. Day) presided.
Mr. T. K. Shutter said that they were
not out to hamper the activities of the
council, but rather to assist it. The im
mediate objective was to oppose the
erection of the new £20,000 town ball.
They thought that this proposal should
not be considered until after the war
was over, and then the ratepayers
should be given the opportunity of say
ing where the hall should be. The hall
should be in the most important and
central portion of the town, which was
the Main North road. The association
also thought that there should be a re
duction of rates when the drainage loan
was wiped out in 1941.
Alderman D. Menzies said that al
though there was a diversity of opinion
I in the council as to where the new town
hall should be. the majority of the
council had voted for the Prospect road
site.
The secretary of the association (Mr.
M. E. Dodd) said that although the
council might find means of financing
the erection of the new town hall, the
work should not be proceeded with
without securing the approval of the
ratepayers by means of a poll.
