NEW AUSTRALIAN COIN
Master Punches Received for Crown.
CANBERRA, April 21.-The Acting
Treasurer (Mr. Menzles) announced to
day that master punches have been re
ceived from London, one for the obverse
and one for the reverse of the new Aus
tralian coin, the crown, which will be
Issued to commemorate the coronation.
From these master punches the working
punches are now being made and from
these in turn dies with which the crowns
will be struck will be prepared. It is ex
'ected that, falling accident, some of
these dies will be working by Monday.
The new coins will be minted in Mel
bourne. 'The obverse side of the coin will
portray an uncrowned head of the King.
The uncrowned head is artistically an
improvement on the crowned head and
stands out with greater clearness. It
was His Majesty's express desire that
the uncrowned head should appear on
Australian coins as on British coins.
The reverse side of the coin will show a
strikingly handsome crown standing out
boldly, with plenty of free field around
it. The inscription encircling this side
will be "Commonwealth of Australia." to
gether with the words "One Crown." with
the year "I937" appearing horizontally
above them.
