LYNCHING HORROR.
Condemnation from Washington.
WASHINGTON, April 14.-Following
the reports of the savage lynching of two
negroes at Winona (Mississippi) yester
day, Mr. Hatton W. Sumners, chairman
of the House Judiciary Committee of
Congress. has sent a telegram to the
Governor of Mississippi (Mr. White) that
he would be considered an accessory to
the lynchings unless he moved speedily
to punish the oficers of the lynchers.
Mr. Sumners termed the occurrence
dastardly and brutal. "It is the sort of
thing that makes it dificult for us here
who are trying to protect the govern
mental sovereignty of the States," he said.
