CMDRFJÍS LIBRARIES.
TIMELY DENVNGIÀTIOM.
DULL AND QUITE ÏNADÉ
. QUATE. .
MELBOURNE, November 24.
. Children's libraries in Australia were
denounced yesterday by speakers at;the
Australian Library Association con-
vention as heterogenous, dull and quite
inadequate.
Rev. R. St George (Brisbane), who
read a paper on the subject, said mat
the demand for so much trashy readinj
by adults to-day was due to the form-
ing of slack reading habits during their
youth. There was a great danger for
the child in the easily accessible sensa-
tional type of literature, replete with
American slang. He had hot yet seen
a children's library in Australia that
even' approached the minimum of effici-
ency. ' ' ? " ' -.''?'. ? -.' .'.
