SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FROSTS.
Sultanas and Apricots Damaged.
ADELAIDE. Sept. 25.-Severe frosts on
Thursday and this morning caused heavy
losses in sultanas in the irrigation set
tlements of the Murray at Renmark the
damage was estimated at 25 o 30 per
cent, at Barmera 60 to 70 per cent, at
Berri 50 to 60 per cent. and at Waikerie
20 to 30 per cent. According to reports
received in Adelaide tonight, currants
were only slightly affected. Growers said
that it was the worst frost since the dis
astrous one of 1927 and would be a severe
setback to the settlers.
Frost was also experienced in the Ba
rossa district and ruined many of the
apricot crops and caused some damage
in vineyards. A pleasing feature was the
success of oil-burning heaters and where
growers used these there was little if any
damage. The lowest temperature re
ported was 22deg. on a property at Wa,
kerie.
