Beleaed on Bo-d.-FPorm a commistion
agent at the Metropolitan Markets, Williani
Gordon Lillywhite (48), labourer, admiftted
having stolen £14/151 froni'- Herbert tGeorge
Eggleston between June 12 and June 24, and
£19/7/4 from William James Yeates between
May 11 and July 10. Detective McLernon ex
plained that Eggleston and Yeates were both
growers who had forwarded fruit to Lilly
-white. He was supposed to deduct commis
sion and forward the balance from the trans
actions. However, Lillywhite's private ex
penses became greater than his commissions
and his affairs began to drift. Mr. J. E. Roe,
who appeared for Lillywhite, said that his
client had made the silly mistake of actually
paying the growers before he had collected the
money from the purchasers. Defendant had not
started with a big enough private bank to
give credit. Actually about £150 was still
outstanding from purchasers. He gave cheques
to Eggleston and Yeates, then failed to col
lect enough money- to meet them.. Counsel
said that the means had. been obtained to
pay both men in full. Defendant was told
that ,when restitution had been made and the
costs of the -case--£2'7/l6-paid he -would be
released on bond to be of good behaviour for
12 months.

Milk 'Board Prosecution.---J. J. Fletcher was
fined £5 for infringing the Milk Board Act.
It was alleged that it was his third offence.
Betting offence.Thomas Roy Lovatt (87),
agent, admitted having kept premises at 199
Railway-parade as a common betting house on
September 16, and was fined £20, with £1/0/6
costs.

Stolen Fowls.-Alfred Taylor (27), labourer,
admitted having stolen seven fowls, the property
of Andrew Wilstead, four, the property of Jesse
Vass and three, the property of Winnie Stone,
at Cottesloe, on September 3. Inspector Houston
said that more charges of a similar kind would
be laid. The accused was remanded for sen
tence.
Sleeping in Unoccupied House.-Joseph Friend
Williamson (50), salesmap, admitted that he
had been found sleeping in an unoccupied house
on September 19 and that he had no visible
means of support, whereby he was deemed to
be a rogue and a vagabond. Detective Handcock
said that at 12.30 a.m. he found the accured
asleep in an unoccupied house at the rear of
His Majesty's Hotel. -The accused had been
hanginc about the town lately, usually half drunk.
The accused said that he had lately been re
leased from gaol. On the night in question
he had not gone to the Salvation Army for
lodging, as he might otherwise have done, be
cause they would not have let him in intoxi
cated. He was sentenced to six months' im
prisonment.

Theft of a Rug.--On a charge of having stolen
a rue valued at 10/. the property of Eliza
Blanche O'Brien, Alfred Ernest Tremellin (62).
pensioner, was sentenced to three months' im
prisnment with hard labour.
Fighting in a Lane.-For having been dis
orderly by fighting in a lane off Murray-street,
Frank Moore (35) and Idus Edwin Keeley (35),
labourers, were each fined £2.
