Consols Lose Ground.
MELBOURNE, Aug. 17.-With the ex
ception of Autralian Consols, which suf
fered a reaction, prices of all classes
of securities continued to rise steadily
at the Stock Exchange today. Wattle
Gully was conspicuous among fluctuations
in Victorian goldmining shares with a
rise of 1/9. Deborah gained 7d., and
Union Extended rose 30/ to £22/10! after
sales at £25. Upper Watut lost 6d, but
Bulolo Deposits gained 6d. Barrier shares
were again in demand. North Broken
Hill and Broken Hill South rose 2! and
1/, respectively. Zinc Corporation also
appreciated. Mount Lyell was active at
3d. higher, and tin mining stocks gene
rally were firmer. Less support was
given to Australian Consols. Falls oc
cirred in seven issues, compared with
one small rise on a turnover of £25,000.
