JAPAN AND BRITAIN.
p
FOSTERING OF FRIENDSHIP.
Mutual Peace Responsibilities.
LONDON, July 28.-The mutual re
sponsibility of Britain and Japan in
maintaining world peace in view of their
unshakable position in the West and
East is stressed by the Tokio "Asahi
Shimbun," which publishes. arguments
favouring the fostering of Anglo-Japan
ese friendship.
"The Japanese Government has decided
that the Anglo-Japanese entente and
Britain's vested rights in China will be
respected," the paper says, "but it is
regrettable that Britain still fails to un
derstand the gravity of Japan's interests
in China.
"Japan will continue her efforts to
reach an understanding in regard to Em
pire trade. Officials agree that many in
fluential Japanese favour a renewal of
Anglo-Japanese amity, which is opposed
chiefly by business circles who complain
of the obstacles encountered by their ex
ports in the Dominion and colonial mar
kets."
