A Stolen Rug
Joe Jeiiers, a Japanese (ramener,
pleaded guilty . before Mr. A. H.
O'KcIly, P.M., in tbe Cairns 1'olice
Court on Saturday morning to a
charge of having stolen a rug, valued
at £3, thc property of May Cavell.
Senior-Sergeant Toohill, wbo prose-
cuted, stated that defendant had been
in Sachs-street and paid the woman
a certain sum of money. During the
evening he asked her to give him a
portion of it back, and on her re-
fusing to do so, bc purloined thc rug.
The woman laid a complaint and Con-
stable Ward and Townshend saw de-
fendant in Sachs-street with thc rug
tucked under his arm. He had no
previous convictions, and in view of
that, Mr. O'Kelly decided to extend
thc provisions of section 19 of thc
code, ordering Jcners to enter into
a bond of ¿10, to be of good behavior
for six months.
