CAPTAIN'S SPORTSMAN STATEMENT.
'Beaten By Better Side."
LONDON,, August 18.
Mr. H. L. Collins (the Australian Captain), in a special, interview; at first
hesitated to comment on the collapse of the Australians in'the second
innings. Eventually Tie said, "It was a pity that the rain came when it
did, and it was a pity that afterwards the sun came out. But-these -
things are all .iii thc game. We are beaten."
After a moment's pau:c, Mr.-. Ccllins continued: "I think we were beaten by
a better side. It v/as a fine; game, played ,in a good spirit throughout.
England owes a lot to Hobbs for his splendid innings-particularly
before lunch on Tuesday, when the .wicket was difficult. It was the
finest innings ' that I -have seen."
