"POWER WITHOUT
NO FURTHER ACTION
BY GOVERNMENT
PREMIER'S STATEMENT
MELBOURNE, June 27.-The
Government -would not take fur-
ther action against Francis Hardy,
author of "Power Without Glory,"
or try to stop the circulation of
the book, the Premier (Mr. J. G.
B. McDonald) said to-day.
The Government had no power
to amend the law. It could only
prosecute the sellers of obscene
or indecent publications and the
Government contemplated no
such action over "Power Without
Glory." The Crown had taken
action in the court on the book
and the result was known to
everyone.
Mr» Bennett (L.C.P., Caulfield),
in an- impassioned attack in the
Legislative Assembly on Tuesday
night, urged the Government to
stop the circulation of "Power
Without Glory." Mr. Bennett
said the hook contained a "low,
muck-raking libel of the iate
Field-Marshal Sir Thomas
Blamey."
