IIOIIART TOWN AND THE SBOUTH.
The Church of England Synod met on Monday.
Several notices of motion were given; amongst
them Mlr. Macdowell gave notice that.ho would
move on Wednesday (yesterday) that in the event
of the Abolition of State Aid Bll passing both
Houses, a petition be forwarded to tile Queen in
relation thoerto. The Synod wont into committee
on the Ecclesiastical Law.
J. S. White, Esq., has lectured to a numerous
and respectable andience, at tile IInon Mechanics'
institutes, upon the conveyane of Real Property
by ltrgistration instead of Deed, in accordance
with t?he principle of Torrens' Act.
Thue Kingboroegh Itifle Corps paraded on
Satourday last, under tlhe command of Captain
Kirwin; and were inspected by Lieutenant
Colonel Russell, Inspecting Field Officer.
The second annual examination for the degree
of Associate of Arts commenced on Monday, at
the Court tlouse. 'Twelve candidates presented
themselves. Tile examinations will finally close
on Saturday next; the degree will be conferred
on tile 24th.

scheme at a ionard of Oficers, to be recommended
to her Manjesty's Government for the great reduc
tion of the imperial expenditure in this coalony, by
a corresponditlg redaction ot the Crown'cstabtnlis
ments.t The proposal did not receive the concur
roence of the officers.
