The site decided upon at Scottedale for the
bailway station by the Minister of Lands and
Works is looked for with much interest, and
It is the general opinion that Mr. Brown will
boe more influenced by the natural advantages
of tho locality, and its being in direct route
for the railway to its ultimate terminus in
this district, than by any party deputations.
lIr. G. H. Brkeo, C.E., is bohere, and is ox
amining the Ringarooma Rivet, with a view
of fixing upon the best point to tap it for a
copious and continuous supply of water to
the Branxholm and Mount Camoron districts,
for the purposo of sluicing the extensive
alluvial tin deposits in those districts--or I
might say in the north-east generally. It is a
grand project, and one deserving of being
treated by the Government as a national one.
The Court House, a nice-looking little build'
ing, is finished and passed ; it only requires
furnishing and opening, when a longfelt want
will hb met.
MIuch satisfaction is expressed at the
Governmont having so promptly complied with
a poticion, made to the hen. N. J. Brown the
last time ho was here, to declare our principal
roads main roads, though I question if £25 a
mile will be sufficient to keep them in repair
with the daily increasing tralfli upon them.
It is about time the Education Department
called for tenders for the school building, the
money for which-viz , £350-was voted last
session. The school at present is hold in the
Church of England, and I am glad to state the
attendance is steadily inereasing, the averago
being 33 out of a possible 40. There is to be a
mooting of the School Board next Saturday,
when it is to be hoped the above, and the
necessity that exists for more forms and a
hitehen' to the teacher's residence, will be
represented again to head quarters.
The regular monthis meeting of road truse
tees was held on last Saturday. when sundry
aceounts were passed for payment, and a
meeting decided to be held on next Saturday,
for the purpose of appointing a secretary in
lac of lMr. George Fry, whoso seat has he
come vacant through nonuattendanco at three
regular monthly ineetings in successiorn.
Str. Clifford. photographie artist, has taken
numerous portraits and landscapes success
fully, and as hIe is very painstaking and
reasonable in his charges,is likely to continue
o doing.
The now hell belonging to the Church of
England is a great eoon, as it can be hoard
distinctly for three miles.
The ladies are il very blusy prelparing for a
bazaar, to Io heldl on tieo ith of tMarch niext,
for the purpose of liquidating tin debt on the
Churchl of IEnglaen; and judging from the
earnest manner in which they are working it
is hound to be a sucesus, and I am happy to
state that all denomoinations aro contributing.

Thro is no lack of Ipublic anmusemnts l no

Mr. N3'sbet, of the lirm of Krushka and
Nisbet, is leaving this district I think, the
partnership having boon recently dissolved.
Yesterday (Sunday) two horses with kero
sene tins tied to their tails galloped along the
main road, past Legerwood in the direction
of the township l; one canto in contact with a
horse ridden by a young man and nearly
knockeod it down. It is fortunate that no
more serious accident happened, and I men
tion this in hopes that such a risky joke will
not le repeated
